We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Deukmejian Wilderness Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Rugged park in San Gabriel mountain foothills, offering hiking trails & a historic stone barn.
What runners say about Deukmejian Wilderness Park
“This is a nicely maintained nature park with a nice picnic area, visitors center, and some amazing trails, especially the ones up to the summit of Lukens.”
“Other than that's the park is clean lots of Rosemary, bathrooms, green grass, mosquitoes, and a beautiful sunset”
“I expected to visit to be peaceful and tranquil to enjoy the sunset!”
I thoroughly enjoy hiking at this location! It has multiple trails of various lengths and "difficulties". I suggest looking at the mountain model in the learning center to see the trails and descriptions if your unsure which one to go on. The learning center is very cute and small for both adults and kids to enjoy.
This wilderness park is right next to the mountains and provides many hiking opportunities of all levels. There is a museum that has interactive exhibits geared to teach us about the local environment, the flora and fauna, and the wildlife found in the area.
This park was always beautiful but the Station Fire in 2009 did a lot of damage to the coastal sage scrub. Now, 13 years later, everything looks gorgeous again and the flowers are in bloom this spring and the oaks are even coming back for the most part.
Edited on December 5th 2022: Very nice park with a bit of history in it. Over all, nice visit, nice park and beautiful spread. Couple of trail heads to hike up the mountain if you're interested in that. Many upgrades since my first visit 2 years back.
