Beautiful place, reminded me of kings canyon a bit but minus the $25 fee & traffic jams... If you read up on the technical climbs they use approach trails from the west off mountain road 99 but apparently some of those are a bit rugged?
Went backpacking here in the 1960's when I attended Circle B Scout Ranch. Hiked the Upper Trout Creek trail. Beautiful country, many memories.
