Confirmed from Donner Memorial State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This park offers hiking, camping, fishing, boating, the Emigrant Trail Museum & a historic monument.
What runners say about Donner Memorial State Park
“With well-maintained trails and scenic views, it’s a perfect setting for a day of outdoor activities.”
“Great view but I think the park is not so organised, directions are not enough for understanding different spots.”
“In conclusion, Donner Memorial State Park is a must-visit for anyone interested in American history, nature, or just looking for a peaceful day out.”
“The exhibits are well-curated and engaging, making it a great history lesson for visitors of all ages.”
One of the tragic stories of the pioneer west and California told here. A small museum and gift shop with a short nature trail and walk to 2 of the cabin sites of the Donner parties. One cabin site is on the nature trail while the other is near the large and imposing Pioneer monument statue.
Exploring History and Nature at Donner Memorial State Park Visiting Donner Memorial State Park was an enriching experience that combined a deep dive into history with the beauty of nature.
We did the China Cove Trail at the park as well as the visitor center, and it was very beautiful nice 3.5 mile hike. Everyone at the visitor center was so nice. They told us about the rainbow bridge to go visit up on Donner pass. Highly recommend stopping here.
Beautiful state park in Truckee along the lake and near the interstate. Plenty of activities at least in the summer where you can kayak, swim, hike, etc. Moderately busy when I was there, did a hike and explored the park and museum. Was $10 entry fee when I went. Recommended.
