This is now California’s newest state park! This was formerly farm land converted back to a wetland forest. Great place to hike, bike and kayak! They have nice picnic area and bathrooms! This is a great green space for the Central Valley!
Park is still in the works but we were lucky to get a guided walking tour with a very knowledgeable Park Ranger. She told us all about the history of the land, the plants and wildlife as well as plans for the park. Super exciting that we get to have such an amazing park here in Modesto.
We did a nice guided 4.5 mile hike. The Valley of the Oaks tour. The interpreter was very informative & we saw several birds & squirrels. I’m excited for what is coming. There is not a lot of outdoor activities in this region so I will definitely come when the pond, camping & trails are available.
Newest California State Park! The facilities are not built out yet, and not all the signage is installed, but the Park Rangers are there and are very helpful and enthusiastic. We only had time for the shorter hike (around 2 miles), but will definitely go back.
