Confirmed from Douglas S. Westgate Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Beautiful scenery and amazing walking trails. But make sure to get and use tick spray

★★★★★ — Gregg , May 2025

Great hike with choices of direction here and there. A Brook runs thru it. Cranberry Bogs of yesteryear.

★★★★★ — Patricia , Nov 2020

Nice big open trails, wild turkeys hanging around, and clean and peaceful.

★★★★★ — Kendra , Mar 2020

This hike has well marked trails. The paths wind alongside a river, cranberry bogs, swamp land and past old New England stone wall boundary markers. The rails tend to be muddy so wear hiking boots or waterproof shoes. Though there are boardwalks and bridges at points there are still some parts that have deep mud.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Douglas S. Westgate Conservation Area

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain

  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
