Confirmed from Douglas State Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Woodland environs with a cedar swamp, plus swimming, boating, fishing, snowmobiling & hiking.
What runners say about Douglas State Forest
“The park is beautiful clean and beautiful the lake crystal clear.”
“Trails are in good condition and the views are gorgeous on a clear day.”
“Loads of trails some well marked and easy, others not so much.”
I recently did the Wallis Pond Trail and reservoir trail and loved the scenery. I would try and stay off the main ridge road, it has crushed stone and a little hard on the feet, hence the back trails.
It was a great day at the park, lots of great trails to walk in the forest. Staff were very helpful in helping me choose a trail and handing me a map of the park which helped in navigating through the large park with our kids. We swam, cooked on the grills, and enjoyed the views in the park when we went walking. 👍👍👍👍
I went hiking & really enjoyed the changing terrain. There were A LOT of bugs so I recommend buy spray or wearing a net hat because I literally ran the last mile because they were so bad. Then I got to Wallis pond where there was a breeze that blew all the bugs away.
Paid parking from May till September 1st. Loads of trails some well marked and easy, others not so much. Lots of different biomes can be reversed. Tri-state marker , MA,RI,CT border, is an interesting spot to see.
