Confirmed from Erie Bluffs State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Erie Bluffs State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (692 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 15 mentions

“Easy hikes along the bluffs with beautiful views, also lots of driftwood Down Fisherman’s path, although this path is a little more challenging.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The hiking trails were well-marked and easy to follow, winding through tall grasslands, shaded woods, and eventually opening up to sweeping bluff-top views of the lake.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“Our family visited Erie Bluffs State Park today, and it turned out to be a peaceful, scenic stop that’s well worth the time.”

This is one of the newer state parks in PA. They have several signs to warn you about ticks, so bring a tick spray. I never encountered any but I might have just been lucky. Very nice if you enjoy long hikes.

Our family visited Erie Bluffs State Park today, and it turned out to be a peaceful, scenic stop that’s well worth the time. The park isn’t overly developed, which gives it a very natural, unspoiled feel—perfect if you’re looking to get off the beaten path and experience the Lake Erie shoreline in a quieter setting.

★★★★★ — Kendrick , Jul 2025

Visited in late October. There were many pretty colored leaves to see. This is hiking and bicycling trails (some parts steep). It may be helpful if trail difficulty was posted somewhere along the route. We did not find a good lookout place to see any bluffs. We could look out to see Lake Erie as far as the horizon.

Nice for rockhounding and a bit of beachglassing. Lot of trails to walk too but some are on decent slopes so not wheelchair accessible on trails much. Rocks in picture are found at night with a nm65 lumenshooter up blacklist. If you decide to buy a up light stick to lumenshooter nm65.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Erie Bluffs State Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
