Confirmed from Evans Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic park featuring a river, plus playgrounds (with rocket ship equipment) and picnic tables.
What runners say about Evans Park
“The best playground with so many fun things for kids of all ages.”
“What an incredible park with a large dog friendly area attached.”
What an incredible park with a large dog friendly area attached. Incredible playground for kids of any age with room too run and play. Plenty of picnic tables and grills for your afternoon of play. And with the Spearfish Creek running nearby, you can bring your fishing gear as well.
The park also provides access to an off leash dog area. In the back near the playground, walk through the fence and you’ll see mowed wide pathways plus a sign. I’ve included a photo of the map. Head over to unit 2 and walk the loop with your dog off leash. Great creek for a swim too!
This park is great for everyone. It has lots of open spaces for kids to play on equipment or throw a Frisbee around on the grass. There is an extended walking trail past the fence of the park that leads in 4 different loops around the area, and they even lead down by the Belle Fourche River.
I love this park! The rocket ship brings back old memories, and they also upgraded the park itself! Besutiful! There is a separate dog trail to the side, which is great to let dogs just run! Maybe keep them on a leash too if other pups are out. I personally love it to fly kites! 🪁 Very pretty area!

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
