The park is well kept and very pretty. The Endicott system batteries are well preserved with very little graffiti, and are fairly easy to access via trail. It was really cool to learn about the forts history during World War Two as a top secret center for interrogating POWs, although most if not all of the buildings…
Located off the George Washington Parkway, two miles from Mount Vernon, Va. Locals use the park for picnicking and recreation. I was not familiar with the history. The land was George Washington's farmland to a Spanish-American War fort to a top secret intelligence camp during WWII.
We love Fort Hunt Park and go there often to walk the dog through the woods or on the loop road, go for a bike ride or a run. There are many pavilions you can reserve or just show up and hope no one else reserved. They have charcoal grills for use, bathrooms that are open most of the year.
I come here all the time. Lots of people do. You should come here too. Bring your grandma, your kids, your dog, your collection of rare spoons. Ride your bike, canoe your boat, or just take a walk. Come watch the sunset. Watch it with those you care about. Then leave when it gets dark.
