Confirmed from Freedom Trail Foundation's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Freedom Trail Foundation

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (396 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

This was great! We went on the freedom trail tour with Isaiah Thomas last weekend. My husband and I actually missed the first tour we were trying to attend and went to the next one with Isaiah and we are happy we did! He was a great guide and so funny.

Wear comfortable shoes!! I can not stress this enough. You will ne doing a lot of walking and be able to see so much a historic downtown Boston. It takes you right through little Italy to get to Paul Revere's home. If you are into history. This something to do while in Boston!

★★★★★ — Faith , Jul 2019

Ben Soloway as Dr. Byles led an amazing tour on the Freedom Trail. He was engaging and the history stories were interesting. Thank you for a fun morning! Our kids ages 12 and 14 also enjoyed it. Our 12 year old was fresh out of the required American History class so the timing was perfect.

We did a guided tour with the The Freedom Trail Foundation, and it was hands down one of the best decisions we made in Boston! Walking the Freedom Trail on your own would be interesting but doing it with a costumed guide who truly knows the history brings it completely to life.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
