Confirmed from Frick Park - Nine Mile Run Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Frick Park - Nine Mile Run Trail
Nicely maintained park and trails in the city. Trails are not marked with blazes, but the main ones are packed gravel, and intersections are all clearly marked with signs. The main trails are laced with unlabeled dirt trails for more strenuous hiking and mountain biking.
Excellent trail of crushed limestone great for walking or biking. Eventually crosses Forward Ave. below the Parkway East and continues into Frick Park proper turning into the Tranquil Trail.
Pittsburgh has a ton of really nice hiking trails. The terrain is very variable, so is the scenery, some of it is unspoiled, and some of it is in a semi-city environment. The 9-mile run trail goes from duck hollow all the way to the Frick fine arts museum, and it's a nice multi-mile hike that is not too hard.
Cool place for bike riding, walking or hiking. A nice creek flowing through it also

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
