Confirmed from Waterfront Trailhead - Great Allegheny Passage's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (52 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“Nice quite trail along side the river that follows all the way to Washington DC, dogs welcome and bikes as well”

A nice pavel trail along the Monongahela river that's part of GAP trail

★★★★★ — Keep , Aug 2023

3 inches of snow from Homestead to Mckeesport. Only person from the flyover to the area around Kennywood. Witnessed a female eagle. Great place to run.

★★★★★ — Joe , Jan 2025

Beautiful trail, nicely maintained. It was an easy ride, not challenging even for a beginner like me.

★★★★★ — Ed , May 2020

The goats are back. This portion of the trail runs behind the Waterfront stores and apartments. It's a short stretch but a nice stretch used by bikes, walkers, random runners and dog walkers. The goats helped create some good views of the water and Duck Hallow which is across the water.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
