Confirmed from Frontcountry Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Frontcountry Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (30 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

This was such a wonderful place to hike. There are from moderate to challenging trails. Be sure to have plenty of water!!! We had very little to no cell reception but the trails had a good amount of traffic. Located in Government Canyon State Park, this is a gem and full of wildlife.

It's always a pleasure to go here. There are many trails easy for the l8ttle ones. There is a Discovery playground and amphitheater area. Most of the time there is a ranger who can guide you and give you info. Many people walking their dogs on a leach. Very safe to go.

Great hiking trails. Nice facilities and clean restrooms. Extremely family friendly. There are trails for all skill levels. Bring water because you never know when you will need it. Staff was nice.

Come prepared in your comfy shoes. The trails turn rugged after the first half mile. Not toddler bike friendly. We ended carrying our LO on our shoulders half the way. There is a few trails you can choose from. I would suggest bringing a walking stick!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
