Confirmed from Gatlinburg Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Really nice and easy trail to walk. Super scenic next to the river along the walk. One of our favorite easy walks

★★★★★ — Brittany , Aug 2023

Visited on a weekday with no wait to enter. No need to buy tickets in advance. This trail is one of the few in the park that allows dogs, which makes it a favorite for locals and visitors alike. It’s flat and easy to walk, with scenic views of the river and occasional glimpses of historic structures.

★★★★☆ — Jonathan , Oct 2025

Leisurely hike by the river that is suitable for all children, the elderly, and dogs. There is only one small decline and incline during the hike. Most of the trail is shaded by the tree canopy. There are spots to stop and wade or swim in the water.

★★★★★ — Kristi , Jul 2023

A beautiful easy walk and well maintained trail. Convenient location and a must do while visiting Gatlinburg if you enjoy the outdoors. Great way to burn some calories after at any of the great local restaurants.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
