Confirmed from General Thomas Sumter Memorial Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about General Thomas Sumter Memorial Park
“Small park with monument and grave sites for General Sumter and several relatives in a well kept, woodland setting.”
“A quick stop, and worth the time to read about a significant forefather of our country and beautiful state of SC.”
“Even without the house it is a small peaceful place to listen to local birds.”
Great quiet park with shade and history. There are maybe a dozen or two dozen gravestones from the Sumter family. There is a bit of woods right next to it but no walking trail. A small open area for a picnic (bring a blanket because there aren't tables) or kids to run around.
It's nice for what it is: a memorial. The park part comes second. There's no official trail, but there's enough space to make for a decent walk. Other than walking your dog or reading the 2 historic signs, there isn't really anything else to do. Which is fine.
Super quiet and secluded. Gravel parking lot. This park is at the end of a road and is probably often overlooked, but there's plenty of history to be found here.

“No bathrooms, gravel parking lot and bring your own chairs if you would like to sit awhile.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
