Confirmed from Glacial Drumlin Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

We've had trail passes for a couple years and absolutely love the tree covered Trail! Fun to ride bikes across the bridge... Great place to kind of take a break and look at the river!

★★★★★ — Susan , Oct 2021

Traversed the 16 mile stretch from Cottage Grove to Lake Mills on foot, which does not require any fees. This section of trail is nearly 100% crushed rock, flat and 80-90% in the shade. There are many wooden bridges and a decent amount of road crossings - stay aware for vehicles.

The trail was paved at the start. It became gravel further on. The trail is well maintained and appears to get a lot of use. We only walked a couple of miles before turning around. It was a lovely walk. I am looking forward to walking it again once it is summer to see it all green.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“The highlight of this stretch for me comes in the form of a bit of history a few miles west of Lake Mills near the old and abandoned long wooden boardwalk over the marsh.”
