Confirmed from Grizzly Peak's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Scenic destination featuring a panoramic view of San Francisco and Oakland.
What runners say about Grizzly Peak
“I walked up the side which was very cool but at the top there is a big electrical Tower surrounded by barbed wire, so that was less scenic.”
Awesome views of Oakland, San Francisco and the bay. Usually it's cloudy, but today it was super clear and you could see everything. However, it was too cold and windy. The views are absolutely magical and it deserves more than 5 stars. However, the 4 stars rating is because there's no real parking there.
THE HUGE VIEW OF BAY AREA- OAKLAND, SF CITY AND SURROUNDING can be viewed from this high hill place. You can see Berkeley Marina, Oakland the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge. Tip-Bring warm jacket or something. Its cold all the time out here especially at the evening. Sometimes its foggy. sometimes the sky is open.
Go to hike from home. Great view of Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville, the Bay, and of course Treasure Island and San Francisco. Added treat today was seeing fleet week aerial acrobatics.
I never knew there was an actual peak! I walked up the side which was very cool but at the top there is a big electrical Tower surrounded by barbed wire, so that was less scenic. As far as I could tell there wasn’t a trail on there other side of the peak so I came back down the same way I came up.
Trail conditions & character
“The wide panoramic view of the Bay is great for wide angle photography, but also bring along a telephoto lens to capture close ups of the Bay Bridge and the San Francisco skyline.”
“The sprawling cityscapes, adorned with glittering lights during the evening, create a mesmerizing vista.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
