Confirmed from Grizzly Peak Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Grizzly Peak Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (62 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“It’s mesmerising to see the entire scene with such a beautiful spot 👌 mountains clouds water together is a perfect combination to spend your previous time in evening”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Nice trail; honestly there aren't any sweeping views, but it's nice shaded moderate hiking through woods for most of the first mile (to the picnic area).”

Greenery along the trail some parts are shaded and very narrow trail. Long sleeves and pants recommend if you don’t to brush against the weeds or plants. Trail head parking is limited and can get crowded on the weekends. You can either do a loop of 4 miles or just do an out and back 2 miles.

Great options of making a trail loop 2-4 mi . Might be a bit slippery if it was raining ..

★★★★☆ — Jatin , Jan 2024

We came on a cloudy afternoon and everything was pretty quiet. We had a fantastic time exploring and doggo had an especially good time. Finding the right place to park and jump on the trails was a bit non obvious but really won't have trouble next time-- and we will be back very soon.

★★★★★ — Sarah , Mar 2020

Moderately interesting trail towards a captivating view of Berkeley, the Bay, San Francisco and the Golden Gate. This seems to be one of the best ways to get to these vistas that formerly were accessible by car on the pull outs on the main road here.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Grizzly Peak Trail

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
