Confirmed from Harkness Memorial State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (3,148 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“Harkness Memorial State Park is a beautiful and well-maintained place.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 20 mentions

“I spent an afternoon here a few weeks ago enjoying the fall foliage as I checked out the beautiful mansion, the tower, and the gardens.”

Great Park to just relax on the oceanfront. Didn't get a chance to tour the Mansion and gardens. Maybe next time. Went down to the beach which was very nice, but there is no swimming allowed. Many picnic areas with grills and nice tables available. Great place for a large family reunion or get together.

Absolutely beautiful park that has some amazing scenery. I have come here several times in past few years to walk the dogs but this last time was better than all the rest. I proposed to my partner and couldn’t have picked a better place. Highly recommend the views of the ocean, mansion and nature.

We went here as a part of the Sky's the Limit 2022 hiking challenge. This is definitely a hidden gem. The beach, trails, gardens, just all of it is such a treat. When we went there were tons of people flying kites, a wedding was going on, and a bird poop on me while we were hiking around.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
