Confirmed from Harlan Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Wide, paved trail for runners, cyclists and hikers, with views of the Sacramento River.
What runners say about Harlan Trail Head
“It's always clean and well maintained.”
“There's less foot traffic heading west/upriver due to steeper trails and less shade, but it's a beautiful view.”
“This is hands down my favorite running trail.”
“Take a friend and go enjoy the views, it's so peaceful!”
“Great set of trails for all levels of riders.”
This is a beautiful, easy, paved trail along the Sacramento River. Bikes, walkers, runners, dogs, kids, strollers.....
Grateful this stunning trail is so close. You're in epic nature in less than a 10minute walk! Always see tons of wildlife and the views are majestic. The trail out to the dam is well paved and wonderfully marked with mileage. A perfect stroll early in the morning with hills giving a perfect leg workout.
I went on this hike late morning and the views were beautiful. There are a lot of hikes on the path, but many options for biking, running, and walking alike (even off paths for more trail). The path features a beautiful mobius strip sculpture, a nice bridge, and the stunning sacramento river.
It was very nice and quiet. Definitely more of a workout with all the inclines and declines than the other side of the river. There is still a dark reminder of the fire tornado that circled through the area that took my friend's life, Jeremy Stoke, on this side of the trail.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller

- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
