Confirmed from Heritage Trail - Chester's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Great spot for a bike ride. My tire had an issue too and I was grateful for the bike tool station at the entrance to the trail where I was able to repair it.

The Heritage Trail is a paved rail-to-trail linear Park shared by walkers and bicycle riders. It runs from Goshen to Monroe New York for approx 11 miles. The Monroe side was recently extended a mile or two. Chester NY is at the midpoint of the trail. where there is very nice ice cream store.

We love the Heritage trail. We use multiple entries, Middletown, Goshen , and Chester. Regardless of where we enter, there are down trees, sometimes too close to the trail. Maintenance should be increased to remove debree. The culverts need to be cleaned to allow water runoff.

Awesome trail, i like how there is joe fix it bike repair stations along the heritage trail, that’s nice! Pavement is in pretty good shape but definitely needs a repaving job from bus parking lot (in Monroe) to gray court road, pavement is tearing, and it’s extremely bumpy because of it that section needs needs help…

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
