Confirmed from Hesse Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Easygoing locale featuring trails for walking & biking, sports fields, playgrounds & picnic spots.
What runners say about Hesse Park
“A very nice, clean park with amenities for gatherings, sports, exercise, and peace.”
“Playing pickleball with friends was an experience and a half lol it was incredibly peaceful and the lands felt like they were well cared for”
We love coming here for family days. We pack a lunch and the smaller kiddos can play on the playground while the bigger ones have other options if they choose; like basketball, bike trail, tennis, even climbing a tree.
My wife and I go here to ride our bikes on the path and for that it's fine. The parking lot is quite large and should be pretty hard to fill. It's a pretty big park and I can see it has lots of areas to do various activities but I don't partake in those activities so I can't tell you how good they would be there
This park offers 4 baseball diamonds open to the public. 3 pavilions with 1 set of bathrooms connected to the most South pavilion. It also offers 3 badminton courts, a basketball court 2 playgrounds, and a nice mile long trail that leads you straight to downtown O'Fallon.
Phenomenal place to run. Beautiful and well maintained. Often have serene little moments throughout the whole of the bike trail. Not sure about the rest of the park, however. I'd imagine it'd follow suit.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
