Confirmed from Hillandale Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
74-acre park boasting a fitness-gear-lined trail, picnic areas, sports fields & a replica log cabin.
What runners say about Hillandale Park
“very very well maintained with multiple picnic pavilions .”
“And it is very peaceful and quiet and you never know what you're gonna run upon while walking on a trail.”
“The pump track and dirt jump (powerline) are fun for all ages and abilities.”
A fantastic amenity for locals and visitors. I used the gravel exercise trails and the easy Mountain Bike Trails. Highly recommend. The green routes are not too steep or technical. The blue and black routes are tight rock gardens with jagged rocks throughout.
Ideal place to spend an afternoon and has sitting areas with tables for lunch. There's a 2mi trail that's kid friendly with entertaining stuff along the way (fixed workout equipment, pedestrian bridges). The area is well kept with plenty of parking.
Cool park nestled in Harrisonburg. The park was extremely busy on the weekend. I would suggest going during the daytime. The trails are nice, bit we didnt get tp see the playground because it was to busy.
Nice park, bathrooms place to park the car. Playground for the kids. Lots of places and trails to walk and ride your bike. Grill food.
Trail conditions & character
“Lots of flowy trails and lots of technical rocky trails.”
“The park is cleared from leaves, stick pickup should be done after the bathrooms are opened.”
“They now have small pavilions at some sites with more parking.”
“And it is very peaceful and quiet and you never know what you're gonna run upon while walking on a trail.”
“This is a great park with options to walk the dirt or paved trails.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
