Confirmed from Turk Mountain Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Turk Mountain Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (63 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Great family hike for novices. About 2.5 mile out and back trail. As everyone else has noted, make sure to take the trail across the road from the parking lot and not the one that actually connects to the lot. Starts off downhill for a short bit before going up.

Trail starts across from parking lot and it starts by going down (I know, it's a little weird but not for Shenandoah NP). Total time (roundtrip with about 15 min resting on top) aprox 2 h. In late May the flowers were in full bloom and there are long distances of flower tunnels. Very pretty.

A great hike to the top of Turk Mountain. Cross the road and follow the Appalachian Trail South for .2 mile. Look for the Blue Blazed trail off to your right. Follow the trail down and then climb Turk Mountain. The rocks on top are a little challenging but very cool!!!

This is a great hike! Only 7/10 of a mile and the incline isn't too steep. My 4, 5, and 8 years old kids have no problems with it. The 2 year old, wasn't up to the task without some help. Amazing views from the top!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
