Confirmed from Hilltop Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Hilltop Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (23 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“I love stopping g here everyday on my way home from work, great views and awesome new people to meet.”

Access to the wonderful arboretum loop, Sundial bridge and the Sacramento River trail. Great hill training.

★★★★★ — Orly , Jun 2024

nice uphill hike, it’s high enough for a view of the town and you can see the tip of the sundial bridge. When I went it was kinda dry, not a ton of shade. I gave it 4 stars only because the view isn’t breathtaking or anything but it’s still a nice walk outdoors. Usually you can see deer

★★★★☆ — Angeline , Oct 2023

Half a mile down, half a mile up! How hard can it be??? Oof. Hard. You'll be really proud of yourself after you're done. Continue on the trail to another trail, or eventually the Sundial Bridge.

★★★★★ — Dessaysso , Oct 2022

Good uphill quick hike. 1 mile down and back up unless you do the sundial loop. People are nice on the trail and for the most part pick up after their pets which is nice

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
