Confirmed from Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“An easy hike, no big hills.”

An incredible untold story coming to life. A sad point in American history, but a remarkable testament to dignity and resilience. Mitchelville is well worth a visit. The pinegrove setting next to the Salt Marsh and boardwalk is so serene, I'd go just for that.

The park seemed geared toward older children. It was educational and pleasant. There was a very positive and peaceful vibe felt throughout. The trail led to a beach which was unexpected . We waded in the water as a gigantic eagle observed near by.

The story of Mitchelville is fascinating and underrated. Why this place is not given its rightful place in both national and state history books is beyond me. Freedom Park is a lovely, unassuming little spot highlighting the history of Mitchelville.

This was a really beautiful history park. Really well done. Lots of interesting facts to read. A beautiful walk around the property. There's a boardwalk that takes you out into the marsh a little bit. Shaded and comfortable. Interesting drive up the island to get there.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
