Confirmed from Folly Field Beach Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Folly Field Beach Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,998 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 9 mentions

“The beach itself is incredibly wide, tranquil, and clean, making it perfect for taking a peaceful stroll or sitting out to watch the waves.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Beautiful, light beaches with low waves, except yesterday when it stormed somewhere and the waves were pretty big for this beach.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“The beach itself is incredibly wide, tranquil, and clean, making it perfect for taking a peaceful stroll or sitting out to watch the waves.”

One of public/open beaches, at north end of Hilton Head Island, facing east to watch sunrise, similar to Coligny Beach. From parking there was a wood step bridge walking half minute to the beach.

This is our favorite beach to visit. Especially early in the morning before the beach humans storm the beaches of Normandy. It is peaceful and we can walk and enjoy the beauties of nature and it is still warm and the water is warm. Wildlife is always abundant. Shells and sand dollars are a rare find.

★★★★★ — Miranda , Jul 2024

A beach truly for both dogs and people. It's not an exaggeration to call it a Dog Beach. People relax, walk, run, while dogs enjoy playing in the water or running around. The sandy beach is long and clean. Parking fee is $5, and there are public restrooms. I want to come back again.

Amazing experience. Lovely beach, friendly people, dog friendly, amazing sunrises and sunsets, great place to take a walk any time of the day.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🅿️ Trailhead parking 18 mentions

“Easy access to the beach with convenient but somewhat confusing parking - the parking payment machine seemed to cause many people issues.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
