Confirmed from Historic Thompson Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Longtime recreational retreat designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, with a zoo, trails & playground.
What runners say about Historic Thompson Park
“The place is neat and tidy and well maintained.”
“Beautiful and peaceful non-chaotic environment just wish I had brought a blanket and layed down and got lost in the leave it offers.”
Thompson Park is where I spent almost every night as a teenager and young adult. What a great place. You can see for miles and the view is fantastic. And a great place to fly your kites.
This is truly my happy place. I love the scenic spots overlooking the city. It’s a great place for kids—not only is there a zoo, but there’s also a pool, a splash pad, a playground, tennis courts, a golf course, and plenty of places to walk. The park itself is stunning year-round.
This park has it all. We took a nice leisurely walk. This place has a public pool, a zoo, walking paths, playgrounds, scenic views, a golf course and more. The place is neat and tidy and well maintained. There is picnic area in different areas. The place has tons of room. A great place to stop.
Absolutely loved it..great place for family get togethers or even just a nice walk 💯😁My family and I come here whenever I'm visiting from NC
