Confirmed from Horsetooth Mountain Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Horsetooth Mountain Open Space

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,735 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 16 mentions

“Beautiful local hike that was a lil more intense than perhaps our understanding of the reviews let on.”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Crossroads between the trails are well marked, but I recommend bringing a map with you along with plenty of water to drink.”

Beautiful local hike that was a lil more intense than perhaps our understanding of the reviews let on. But, absolutely gorgeous space right near home. So dry this time of year, so the Falls were but a trickle, but the hike up was great (even on a very windy day)!

$9 to park, there is a machine that takes debit/credit. The pass is good for 24 hours. The parking lot fills up very quickly. Dogs allowed on leashes. The waterfall at Horsetooth Falls trail was bigger than I expected, you can go up on the top and sit by the pools, or go down to the bottom of the falls, I enjoyed this…

★★★★★ — Brianna , Apr 2020

Excellent and challenging area with multi-use trails and rewarding vistas at every turn. There are a lot of different trails to take, so you can have a different experience every time you go back. The rock scramble to the the top is especially fun with a 360 degree view!

★★★★★ — Reid , Jun 2021

Stunning hiking trails that are accessible by those at any level of hiking. Each trail is clearly marked and there are also paper maps available at the parking lot, along with bathroom facilities. I highly recommend taking plenty of water with you on the trails, as you may find yourself a few miles from the trailhead.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
