Confirmed from Illinois Mountain Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Thanks to Scenic Hudson & the Town of Lloyd for allowing trails to be built here.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Trails are well marked by Scenic Hudson, you just have to watch for them.”

Very well maintained park and trails. I didn't see signs saying No Dogs, but was told after that there are some. Not knowing better, I brought my dog. She had a great time playing at the edge of the pond, which I was able to spot fish in.

Thanks to Scenic Hudson & the Town of Lloyd for allowing trails to be built here. Construction began in 2009, and now there are about 7 miles of singletrack to explore. One side of the ridge has views east, with trails planned for the western facing side.

I was surprised to find this in the middle of Highland. You will need to find directions online, there are no signs to tell you where you are going. Trails are well marked by Scenic Hudson, you just have to watch for them.

★★★★☆ — Mary , Nov 2020

Beautiful trails. The yellow trail was especially fun to follow, with particularly stunning views and gorgeous fall color.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“Leaves covering the trail made it a bit tricky in rocky areas- I was glad I had my walking poles and would recommend them at least for fall hikes.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
