Confirmed from Franny Reese State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This 251-acre park features hiking & biking trails, the ruins of a 19th-century estate & more.
What runners say about Franny Reese State Park
“There are some ruins along the White trail which are worth checking out, and the scenic overlook is nice although not as good as the Hudson walkway.”
“The trail is easy, clearly marked, and there are stunning ruins from a bygone era.”
Well marked and maintained hiking trails. Easy level, good for a beginner hiker. There are a couple of steep areas, but they don’t last long. Limited parking, no bathroom facilities. We came during a weekday, and pretty much had the place to ourselves.
Beautiful trail! I am from Texas, currently staying in Poughkeepsie for work. I had a few days off and decided to venture out and enjoy Mother Nature. Coming from Texas, the views are amazing here, and this trail was very well maintained. Tons and tons of great pictures were taken, editing effects are amazing.
This was a great hike with great ruins and large hills at altitude. The local city is nearby so it was cool to be hiking and seeing trains and transportation off in the distance. The view of the Mid Hudson Bridge makes this walk through the woods great!
No special equipment needed to hike these trails, e.g. climbing boots or stick. Anyone with athletic shoes and a water bottle can hike. Just note that some areas are hilly so there will be portions of moderate uphill. Total it took me 90 minutes to hike all 3 trails, which amounted to about 3 miles total.

“parking was easy enough since there were only 2 others here when we arrived.”
“it was beautiful, peaceful, and quiet(other than nature sounds) only saw a few other folks while we wandered along the trail.”
“No playgrounds, no bathrooms, no picnic area, no nothing, just trails.”
“Nice loop trails passing remnants of an old estate and view of Mid-Hudson Bridge.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
