Ionia State Recreation Area has a nice, 3.65 mile easy to moderate hike around Sessions Lake. Make sure you follow the directions to the south side of the park to most easily find the trail. The trail is well marked overall. A little confusing in places where the trail intersects the disc golf course.
I really enjoyed the time I had here. There is soo much to see and explore, this is a very extensive recreation area. I will definitely have to continue to come back and explore. There are bike trails. Horse trails. Hiking trails. A lake. Many prairies. So much to choose from!
This is one of the very best State parks in lower Michigan as far as atmosphere goes. The over all layout of the park complements itself nicely. Everything is well posted making it easy locate where you are going.
I have stayed at several state parks and this was by far the nicest. The park is beautiful. It was crowded, but people were very quiet. They do enforce quiet hours. I was there in August of last year and it was unseasonably cool. Lucky I had my dog with me because it dipped into the 40s that night.
