We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Islay Hill Peak yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area where the presence of cows is a common topic of conversation in reviews.
What runners say about Islay Hill Peak
“Moderate hike, beautiful view of SLO and you can get some great sunset views from Islay.”
“Now, if we could get the dog walkers, to take there poopie bags with them.”
Beautiful trail, doable with a 5 & 7 year olds in sandals! Some narrow paths, some steep incline, scenic 360° SLO. We saw a coyote or fox (?) in the cow trails, but felt safe on the trails. Highly recommend for families.
It's a beautiful hike! VERY steep and narrow trail with not really any room for trekking poles. There is a MOOtiful surprise at the top, hehe, and the 360 views are simply breathtaking! Not the longest trail, but the steepness makes up for it! Not a trail for weak knees, believe me!
A nice small hill to climb with 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape at the top. The hike up to the peak is about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and a little steep at the end, but a nice short climb.
This is one of my favorite short trails to hike. Great views from the top. Nice how everyone keeps it clean. Now, if we could get the dog walkers, to take there poopie bags with them. Saw a couple bags left behind.
