Confirmed from Ives Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Lovely little park, the bathrooms were surprisingly clean, there were vendors on Saturday and a Pride festival taking place in June.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“It's a beautiful park we had so much fun at the Fantasy Faire”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Beautiful peaceful park with lots of US history”

Located in downtown Potsdam. It has a sidewalk loop, a gazebo, a small playground, benches, and a kayak launch for river access. Open grassy areas with some trees provide shade. I use this park for several photo shoots because of its river backdrop and open layout.

Very nice place to 'get away' but still be in the heart of town. It's about 1.75 miles round trip. Easy trail/flat.

A nice little park with a beautiful view of the river. The path through the park isn't very long, but it is gorgeous nonetheless. Ives Park has a nice place to launch canoes and kayaks. With bench swings and the new playground, this is a wonderful park to take a leisurely stroll and relax.

★★★★★ — David , Jun 2021

Nice walking park that curls along the Raquette river. The flow is fast in this section due to the falls. Is a nice place to walk for those with limited mobility and has wheelchair picnic tables and lots of benches to rest on. There's a canoe and kayak floating dock, if touring the waterways.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
