A beautiful hike with varied terrain and scenery. The rapids below Hannawa Falls give way to a placid stretch of the Raquette River. There are also fascinating stretches by the power dam and cemetery.
There are some absolutely gorgeous vistas and little plaques with some history along the way. If you follow one of the trails down to the water, the stones are perfect for building cairns. The reason for 4/5 stars is that the man made stairs and bridge about 1.5 miles in are rotted and broken.
The Red Sandstone Trail is what I consider a continuation of the Stone Valley Trail just up river a few miles. This Trail does not feature as many dramatic water falls as the Stone Valley Trail but is still an excellent walk/hike.
A nice trail that mosty runs along the river. Pretty easy, good for trail running, and great for walking dogs. It doesn't loop around so just turn back whenever you feel you have gone far enough.
