Confirmed from Kenosha Sand Dunes' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Modest stretch of protected sand dunes on Lake Michigan with hiking trails & scenic views.
What runners say about Kenosha Sand Dunes
“Beautiful views of lake Michigan from atop the dunes, sand trailers that are sometimes marked, took the dogs in a hike and they loved it.”
OK so it's tiny but we made the most of it and loved it! Beautiful views of lake Michigan from atop the dunes, sand trailers that are sometimes marked, took the dogs in a hike and they loved it. Beware there are people that let their dogs loose there which isn't very courteous.
Park on the south side of the Southport beach house. We loved all the flat rocks. We saw many butterflies and bees. The trails go in and out of the dunes and we were able to see lots of unique vegetation. The sound of the waves splashing along the rocks was much louder than I expected.
The Kenosha Sand Dunes may not cover a large area, but it has a very unique landscape, which unfortunately is disappearing. Hiking through the sandy trails gives you great views of Lake Michigan, and the beach is perfect for kicking back or taking a dip.
It was a beautiful day and didn't want to be cooped up. Walked 3.2 miles to the dunes. Not liking the walk down 91st but found the opening to the dunes. Walked on down. The wind blew fresh and cool off the lake. Found myself a large stone down by the water.

- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
