Confirmed from Knauf Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Knauf Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (66 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“It’s a brand new looking pavilion with nice picnic tables and clean well maintained bathrooms, separate mens and womens.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful trails, great for walking by yourself or the whole family (pet friendly as well)!”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 7 mentions

“I love walking my dogs on trails and in the woods.”

Gorgeous fall day for a walk. Parked at Knauf, took the power line easement trail road to ACE Hardware and back. About 3 miles round trip. Almost all flat, or at least very easy gradient. On way back went through some of the side trails that loop through the woods to and from the crushed asphalt/gravel easement trail.

Nice trail to enjoy walks with the family, but would be comfortable using it alone. The sounds of nature are relaxing and got to see some wildlife. It's the perfect distance. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean.

Really nice place! It’s a brand new looking pavilion with nice picnic tables and clean well maintained bathrooms, separate mens and womens. Both were open for use.

★★★★★ — Leif , Jul 2024

Great walking path (gravel) with hiking in the woods available on side paths. I can get 4 miles on this trail with some repeats. Follows massive electric poles but the scenery makes up for it. Bikes and dogs (on leash) allowed. FREE PARKING

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 14 mentions

“Overall, however, a great place for your morning run, a lunch walk, a baby outing in a sport stroller, or perambulating the dog after work!”

🪨 Crushed gravel / limestone 4 mentions

“The trail is dirt, sand, gravel, and I was hoping it extended up to St Josephs marina area but it’s blocked off at Niles road, M63, is where it stops (too bad).”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
