Confirmed from Lake Harriet Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (162 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“It's a beautiful place to grab something to eat and spend some time with family in a gorgeous setting by a small lake and plenty of shade.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“A very nice park for calm reflection.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“I took my dog for a walk and the scenery was beautiful!”

Take my dog for walks here every day. If you want to see deer up close come after 10:00pm and take the path just south of the park.

I took my dog for a walk and the scenery was beautiful! However, there is so much goose poop it's hard to navigate sometimes! And my dog gets overly excited and there are so many baby geese and other dogs walking for me it ends up being stressful in the end but I always go back!

★★★★☆ — Susanna , Jun 2020

Nice park for a walk. If you like to fish, there is a fishing pier and several locations around the lake to cast a line. The bridges make a great location for wedding photographers.

★★★★★ — Charles , Oct 2016

I love this sweet little park. There are turtles, ducks, geese and it's a great fishing spot. The trail for the most part is a loop around the lake. It's safe and is well lite and trailed by many people in the community. Also, just down the street of police and fire departments.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
