Confirmed from Lake Norman State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

My husband and I camped at lake Norman in October with our three dogs and it was absolutely gorgeous! The campsites are really nice and the hiking trails are so pretty. You could see the lake right from the campsite and it was really close to the water. It was extremely peaceful. We felt nice and secluded.

Lake Shore Trail hiking today was GLORIOUS. This is an amazing park that has lake views and access for boats, biking, camping, swimming and activities for youth. Fishing, paddle boats and kayak a small area - great for beginners. Sandy beaches and a swimming beach too.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
