Confirmed from Lake Villa Township Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring a caboose for kids, plus swings and picnic tables.
What runners say about Lake Villa Township Park
“I like how clean the park is also, they keep it very nice.”
Beautiful park with pavilions. Went to a graduation party there & had a blast! There are volleyball courts, baseball fields, a basketball net, grills in the pavilions with one having a fire pit for cooking (we cooked fresh carnitas!), a couple of kid parks, nice walking path & plenty of open space.
Such an awesome little park. It's so nice that it backs up to the walking trails for the forest preserve. The equipment isn't in too bad of shape. There's so much open area to throw balls and for the kids to run. We haven't been to the sledding hill right behind but are excited to try that next year.
My kids love the saucer thing. It's probably one of the only parks around that I know of that still has the old school metal one. 😎The only downside is that the caboose is not open for the kids to walk through anymore, not sure why. 😕
Great park for all ages. Many playground activities, swingsets, picnic areas, BBQ grills and many covered areas too. Connects to the many forest preserve trails for miles of exploration.
Trail conditions & character
“Brought our lunch then walked by sledding hill then to back of park to forrest preserve trails.”
“No bathrooms that I know of but port o potties and I don't know if there is a water fountain as we looked for one today when we stopped after walking but couldn't find one.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
