Confirmed from Legacy Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Legacy Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (255 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Beautiful park, very clean, and we'll maintained.”

We attended an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament was held at Legacy Park this weekend, using six of the fields. The park was easy to find, only 5 mins from the Interstate exit and visible when driving South on I-57 from Chicago.

Blaizze never gets tired of coming to this park. There's so much for kids to play with, a very nice area just to walk, run or jog . . . they even have a water fountain that is at a convenient level for adults, children & pets!!! We can't wait to see what winter events take place here!

★★★★★ — Mary , Jul 2017

This park has everything; trail with workout areas, tennis court, blade rink, playground, splash pad, soccer field, baseball diamond. My child and I visit all the time. They park is kept in decent shape, I think certain areas could be cleaner but eyes can't be everywhere.

★★★★★ — Arielle , Jun 2019

Great place for large events! Lots of space. Splash pad, playground, movie amphitheater, walking trail and fitness course, disc golf, natural scenery and wetlands wildlife, hockey and more.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
