Confirmed from Les Clark Nature Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“The property is well maintained, and we can all help keep it that way by picking up after our pets, and leaving a small donation at the collection box.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Perfect day for 3 hour hike taking advantage of the beautiful fall leaves and sunshine!”

Great walking trail right on the Merrimack. Very leisurely and easy with gorgeous views year round!

★★★★★ — Sydney , Oct 2022

One of the many "little gems" scattered throughout the state of NH where anyone can enjoy an easy nature walk. Bring your four-legged friend along as well (poop bags provided!). Lots of pathways to meander on, or bee line straight to the Merrimack River.

★★★★★ — John , Dec 2019

The entrance to the conservation center is a little bumpy there are a lot of surface routes for the first 25 to 30 yards and then it goes into a nice wide path easy access relatively level until it comes out to the Merrimack River and then there's a nice pathway along the river for 1/4 to 1/2 a mile and there are…

One of the nicest areas I've found to walk along the Merrimack. The trail is well maintained with interpretive markers, and the area is clean. The area is very swampy in general, it is pretty but can be very buggy/muddy.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
