Confirmed from Lone Elk Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Scenic

Sprawling space with driving routes to see elk, bison & other wildlife, plus morning feedings.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“This park drips with natural beauty, offering everything from awe-inspiring forests, to stunning lakes, to roaming majestic animals.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“It’s peaceful, not crowded, and perfect for a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature.”

Absolutely stunning on a gorgeous mid-November afternoon. My husband and I drove through this park, windows down. He didn't remember ever visiting before, and I hadn't been in years. It couldn't have been more perfect. The trees were beautiful tones of red, orange, yellow, and brown.

My son and I had a wonderful first visit yesterday! It was great seeing the free- roaming animals and the park is gorgeous! We just drove through the park and were lucky enough to see all the animals by the road. We had to wait for the bison to cross the road.

It's such a privilege to have this park in the STL area. My daughter loved going through here. Its free to enter, and you just drive through and enjoy the scenery/wildlife. Typical animals that you will see are elk, bison, whitetail deer, and raccoons. Many times they will walk right up next to your car.

★★★★★ — Sadie , Dec 2025

This park drips with natural beauty, offering everything from awe-inspiring forests, to stunning lakes, to roaming majestic animals. We were lucky enough to see all three draws: deer, elk, and bison. If you want to drive the whole thing, that's not a problem.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
