Confirmed from Longmarsh - preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Longmarsh - preserve
“There were hardly other people out on the trail and it was extremely clean, easy to follow, and well marked.”
100% the coolest place you've never heard about, but absolutely need to visit, if you love peeping wildlife on your hikes! (Forewarning: parking is extremely limited with about 5 spots avaliable at the trailhead, if everybody parks well.
The Preserve consists of three contiguous parcels: the Langmaid Farm, Colby Marsh and Horsehide Creek. Accessible to mountain bikes, horses, as well as people on foot. Several narrow pedestrian trails branch off from Longmarsh Road, snaking through woodlands of mature oak and pine and beaver occupied ponds.
This was a nice walk with my dog. I didn't realize that there are two separate trails that follow each other through sections. One point the trail markers lead me to a road and the trail stopped. I did get back on to the Great Bay trail and did almost 5 miles .

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
