Confirmed from Lower River Rouge Recreation Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

These trails are a joy to visit, beautiful in every season. The main gravel trails are able to be walked using most jogger strollers. The children in my neighborhood enjoy playing in the water near the kayak inlet.

Small 2 hour walk through a new trail for a friend and I. Great time, Spring is in the air. Turtles, frogs, snakes and herons! Clean place, but I sure wish people said hello to one another more. Instead, looking down or disregarding seemed to be how you greated people you walked past.

★★★★★ — Megan , Apr 2017

Beautiful, peaceful, and great place to get your steps in. The kids loved all the bridges and the paths leading to Heritage Park. We definitely will be revisiting sometime in the near future.. Make sure to bring some bug spray.

★★★★★ — Tommy , Jul 2022

Very nice walking trail for any season. It's not too strenuous for us "seniors,"

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
