Confirmed from McDowell Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Tucked along the shores of Lake Wylie, it offers beautiful forested trails, clean campsites, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere.”

Beautiful park and place to hang out with friends or family. This place has many hiking loops which are not hard and fully covered with trees around so you don’t feel that sun draining all your energy. You can walk and walk as you don’t feel tired and hot at all.

★★★★★ — Archana , Jul 2024

Quiet and relaxed( especially waterfront dock). If you’re stressed out, then come here. You won’t be disappointed. Numbers of walking/hiking trails, picnic areas etc. you can do fishing in the lake as well. Pet friendly. Overall a very good place for family camping. You can just sit by the lake and enjoy the serenity.

This review is super late, & I had issues trying to upload all of the pictures. I camped out here with a group Friday, 10-28-22 thru Sun, 10-30-22. I never knew this campsite was there. Aside from ROTC, this was my first time camping out. With a portable heater & lighting, it was a decent experience.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
