Confirmed from McKeon Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about McKeon Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (115 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 6 mentions

“Very nice clean nice place to walk flat no hills There's also a Portage on amphicnic tables there and a water's edge no dogs are pets allowed”

Great place to walk. No dogs allowed in the park. I see them once in alwhile . But not on the track There are some kids sport's games there in the middle of the field in the spring summer so lots of people. But it does effect the track There are plenty of times where very few people are there.

Enjoy walking this area. I take my dog for a walk here on occasion for something different. Some good fishing spots to check out at a later date.

A very nice and well maintained park. There's a basketball court, a playground, a soccer field and areas to fish. You can come here to walk or jog too since there's a circular path with both moderate hills and flat planes. If you're hungry it's right next to a pizza shop.

McKeon Park is a quiet place to relax and have lunch, read a book or just to take a walk around the track. There are picnic tables right by the play scape to enjoy a day with your kids. There is also a basketball court for the older kids. The park sits right by the side of the Shetucket River☺A very nice place to visit

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
