We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of McLean Game Refuge - Barndoor Hills Entrance yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Beautiful and peaceful place to hike.”

Spacious parking. Beautiful place to walk or hike. In October, I visited the access point to the trails and the trail along the West Branch of Salmon Brook (3 photos). Revisited after the snows of December and January (3 photos). Latest addition: 1 summit photo of Eastern Barndoor Hills.

★★★★☆ — Danny , Jan 2023

Easy to find parking lot for access to a lot of trails. Follow Grove to Summit (moderately steep switchback trail) for nice vistas from the top. Damp after all the rain but still easy to navigate

★★★★★ — Madeline , Jul 2021

Terrific trails, well marked. Great hill for sledding and people with dogs were very respectful with their handling. Beautiful place for xc skiing, running, or hiking.

★★★★★ — C , Feb 2022

Always a good place for a hike, any time of year. Lots of parking at the Barndoor Hills Rd entrance, seems like almost as much as at the Salmon Brook St entrance.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
