Confirmed from Mill Mountain Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Mill Mountain Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (3,365 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Clean, beautiful, and easy to get to (10 minute drive from the city below).”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 17 mentions

“Short drive and a quick hike to one of the most stunning views you can get of the Blue Ridge Mountains - with the bustling micropolis of Roanoke nestled between.”

Was only able to access the trails and gardens of Mill Mountain Park and not the zoo as we had our little dog with us and the zoo prohibits pets. The gardens area was absolutely beautiful. Extremely well maintained. For the most part we wore our masks. Some others did as well, some did not.

This is a great park (minus the zoo) I saw bicyclists, yoga nice trails and stunning views. They have a beautiful garden you can walk through too, although admittedly I went at the wrong time of year.

I love the great state of Virginia and even more I love Roanoke. The Star is iconic and is best represented by seeing it at night when it is lit up. Sadly I was not up there at night but either day or night it's worth visiting.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
