Confirmed from Monocacy Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Monocacy Park is a nice park along Monocacy creek and at the site of an old mill. If you like the sight and sound of flowing water then this is a nice place to visit. There are plenty of trees for shade. And there is Amur honeysuckle all over the place.

Very nice nature center trails. Did not get a chance to go far, probably about 1/2 mile. We did walk the entire length of the park itself though. It was overcast and threatening rain, but still a very nice place. Really enjoyed it, will come again in better weather and walk the length of the trails.

Nice little park. There are usually ducks, geese there. We even saw a pair of swans today. Really cool to walk around and watch wildlife.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
